Investigative journalists

I was pleased to see that the rights of investigative journalists have been strenghtened by a change in the libel laws. In future they will be free to report on the rich and powerful, without fear of prosecution under the said law. This country's libel laws were the most unjust in the "free world" and used to stifle freedom of speech and to suppress the truth.

I myself have been a victim of corruption in high places and even though some journalists knew the truth they were afraid of the libel laws.

When I was paying the head of the Obscene Publications Squad in the Sixties he would often complain,in his cups, that he or the"dirty dozen"(the twelve members of the OPS) were not getting the lion's share of the money collected from pornographers and the Soho shops and that a significant amount "went upstairs." At first I thought that he was referring to senior officers at Scotland Yard, but later I was surprised to learn from a QC that he was referring to the Home Office!

Quite a few people in Soho were murdered in the Sixties and I was nearly one of them!

Well it seems as though it does not any more and that the guilty will no longer be protected by our libel laws .

I look forward to a new breed of investigative journalists emerging here.

Investigative journalists and reporters are good here in the US but it depends on what network and newspapers they work with that decides the spin on the reporting.
