First off, apologies to the mods if this is the wrong forum for this.
I've just been fortunate enough in Germany to lay my hands on a bunch of old (late '70s / early '80s) and rare Super8 porn movie reels.
Although right now I don't have any means of viewing them, I thought it would be a shame to let the opportunity pass - after all, I can always buy a projector or viewer.
What I'd really like to do (once I've bought said projector) is transfer them onto DVD-R for posterity. Only problem is, being a bit of a technophobe (compared to some people here anyway, it would seem) I haven't got the foggiest clue as to how to go about it. And for various reasons (which should be obvious) I'm loathe to approach a professional film services company from the Yellow Pages to do it for me, even though I'm sure that it would be just a relatively simple bread & butter job to them.
Can anyone help with some tips to (if nothing else) put me on the right track - in layman's terms, if at all possible!!.
Any tips will be gratefully received. Thanks in advance (and in hope!!)!

Transferring Super8 to DVD-R
Re: Transferring Super8 to DVD-R
A primitive way to do it is to project them on to a screen (or smooth white wall) and film the result with a camcorder. Then go from camcorder to DVD-R.
Re: Transferring Super8 to DVD-R
It's not going to be easy. If you project it onto screen and try to capture it from that, you'll probably get flicker.
I think your best bet would be if a kind soul on here with a good telecine setup does it for you, or if one of the many producers on here could point you at a discreet professional place that could help you out.
This is the kind of thing you'd need to do it yourself, I guess, but he's overseas. Expenisve too!

I think you will find you will get flicker whatever method you use but if you are goint to bounce the film onto a screen then use a good camcorder to film it HDV will probably give you the best results, as for these super 8s they duplicated them like fuck in Germany and you can buy loads of them on ebay for a few ??s.

Eric,
One way of doing it is to project the image onto a ground glass screen and record it on your camcorder from the other side. Then edit any flickers out on your computer before burning it to DVD.

Re: Transferring Super8 to DVD-R
Appreciate the feedback, chaps.
I posted a similar meassage on another forum and in response was contacted privately by a bloke in Italy who's an avid Super8 collector and also does such transfers. I've actually traded with him in the past (without knowing this) and that said trade went smoothly so I'm going to post off a couple of the Super8s to him to see how it goes. He claims he has all the equipment for eliminating flicker etc. so we'll see.
Thanks once again for responding alec, Ned, PE, Keith R and EA.
