Nigel Kneale.
Nigel Kneale.
Just read he died today, works incl Quatermass,Beasts, the stone tape etc.
Re: Nigel Kneale.
That is a major loss. I wonder what his standing would have been if he had had a decent budget attached to the TV/film version of any of his work. As it is, his position in British TV history is assured----Quatermass and his adaptation of 1984 ensures that.
Recently watched Beasts (for the first time since it was first broadcast), and it wasn't as good as I remembered (Has there ever been as wooden an actor as Simon McCorkindale?)----though the During Barty's Party episode still makes the flesh crawl. His adaptation of Susan Hill's The Woman In Black (late 1980s) was proof of the power of his screenplay work.
Hadn't realised he adapted Look Back In Anger and The Entertainer for the cinema:

Re: Nigel Kneale.
i have beasts and i think bartys party and special offer were two of the best.
Re: Nigel Kneale.
Special Offer was pretty good too----a young Pauline Quirke and the gorgeous doll-faced Shirley Cheriton, plus a rather rough looking slapper customer played by Lynda La Plant.
