Just saw Borat at the movies

Post by Jock Strap »

Very funny.
Although painful in places.
Takes the piss out of just about everyone.
I wouldn't put it up there with Spinal Tap, Blazing Saddles and Airplane but it's certainly worth a watch.

Planning to see it on Wednesday.... (orange 241) Saw trailer yesterday and it looked fun. But hear that it's been withdrawn from a large number of Cinema's in the USA.....Wot no sense of humour....

Americans find it hard to laugh at themselves.
I remember working abroad and there was a bunch of us from different countries all ripping into each other about our homelands. Just a bit of banter like.
But the yank couldn't take it.
"QUIT RAGGIN' ON MY COUNTRY!"
Oh get a life mate......

"A damn fine giggle isn't it?"

It's a riot! The guy doesn't give a fuck. Having spent the best part of two years in Eastern Europe it's even more hilarious. Borat kicks ass!

Ive been a Borat fan right from the beginning - I love it, seriously, do the voice with friends and love all the digs at america and the european culture stuff, but I saw the film tonight and was the only person in my group who didnt like it - everyone else loved it. I dont think Borat works with a narrative - he is a sketch character and all the padding out e.g with him crying next to the fire was too much, I didn't wanna see other sides to him

+ Im starting to not really wanna laugh at some of the stuff set in Kazakhstan even thoughits filmed in Romania. Its really quite a sad life in many respects and to have someone come over and take the piss out of them just seems cold. I don't know. I think maybe I just feel that even though I love Borat and its funny as hell, the jokes really as much on us as the people its handing the rope to......

Borats a bit too obvious since Borat isnt American its a case of how dare this foreigner from some pissy third world country rip the piss out of our great first world super power....But The Simpsons have been doing it for over 10 years. Thats irony for you.

I think its one of those movies where no-one escapes a lampooning.
Like Team America.

All I know is it's very funny. Everyone should be able to laugh at themselves. Sure Kazakhstan gets a ribbing but we have all had our countries made fun of based on the sterotype. It's just a bit of banter in the end.
