I've got a mate who wrote to the keyboardist asking to use his music in an uncommercial private film and the bloke wrote back with his blessing...Sounds like a great guy indeed!
I love Depeche Modes stuff. I remember buying 'See You' their first single on 7 inch vinyl when I was but a wee nipper...But dont quote me on that being their first single...It was my first by them...Then 'Get The Balance Right' or was it the other way round? Was that 1981!???

Yes in about February/March of 1981... I booked them to play at UEA and, as with most bands I booked, welcomed them to the venue and made sure they were OK.
I can't remember too much other than they didn't cause us any problems (unlike Elvis Costello and, on a seperate ocassion, Joe Jackson), and played a good set which went down well.
I can't remember who they supported, but I have a feeling it may have been The Teardrop Explodes as they appeared just after "Reward" had charted, but before "Treason" had been released.

I met Ice Ts crew and they were nothing but nice guys...Not the spliff smoking, baggy jeaned thugs you would expect grabbing their nuts and bussin caps in a niggaz ass. They were so nice in fact I couldve introduced them to my mum....Mind you Ice T had a thing about peoples mums as I found otu the next day at his concert in Brixton Academy.
Sorry Beeston Boy, nothing to do with your thread, just mentioned it because I have met plenty of famous artist and celebs and found them all, if not most to be seriously down to earth people.
Anyone who works hard at what they do won't waste time sucking their own dicks when it comes down to ego. The biggest twats who play on this are usually the least talented.

Dreaming Of Me was their first single in '81
New Life was the second, then Just Can't Get Enough and then New Life.
Never met them but I'm a long time fan and I've seen them live and I know people who have met them many times and they are great blokes.

Couldn't agree more, been saying this a while - its the wannabes and the stereotype of a wannabe that creates an image to tarnish the actual achievers with. shame really

A friend of mine was very good mates with them all and was part of their "crowd" when they were just making it big. Says they are all top chaps, even though they used to be a bit "out there" for Essex.
She also knows Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet very well. I think Moyet is her daughter's god mother.
