Thunderbird has a free spam filter that's easy to use. It also has an 'as you type' spell checker.

May as well download Firefox while you're at it !wink!

If you are getting hit by spam like a shit storm, change your email address. I can buy millions of email addresses for $500 with a claim that those (millions of) users all agree with the mailing.

www.email*****ters.com/data.html

This you will never stop.

Also consider disopsable email like SpamGourmet, Sneakemail and such like. GMail has pretty good Spam filters too.

If using forms use at the very least some form of Captcha/Turing Test such as this It's not infalable however, or something like this

Use one of these also:

Always create a robots.txt file in your site, to let search engines know that they should not visit the spam trap. Email harvesters usually ignore the robots.txt file, so they will fall into the trap anyway.

For example;

# Disallow directory /cgi-bin/
User-agent: *
Disallow: /cgi-bin/

Meaning that search engines should not follow the spam trap located in the cgi-bin directory.

Of course this doesn't help if you are on a mailing list but including numbers and other allowed characters like _ in your user name helps reduce spam from systems that just send out messages hoping the email address is live.

Yahoo has a spam filter that sends spam to a seperate bulk inbox where it is deleted afrer 30 days and doesn't count towards your inbox size limit. You can mark senders as spam too.

I have an email address via my ISP only family, close friends and trusted businesses get told, otherwise I give yahoo one.

In a form, hard code the 2 email and web address, like

$rec_email = 'me@mysite';
$websites ='website name';

Clean the incoming data, sendersemail, message, and name say.

Set an email up to come to you,

$admin_body = "Hello Team, \n Someone called '$name' with the email address '$email' has contacted you through '$websites', with the message: \n \n

$message \n \n

Please get back to this person using the reply feature in your mail program";

Then send it to urself using the above clean data and message.

mail($rec_email, $websites . ' - Contacting', $admin_body, 'From: ' . $email);

This way if you clean the data, and set it up right, it cant be abused as easily :)
