Techie help needed

Post by Bob Singleton »

My PC has Spyware Doctor, AVG and Zone Alarm running constantly and everytime I boot up one or more check for and (where applicable) download/install updates.

In addition I also regularly run Spyware Bot and use Trend's on-line free scanning service, as well as sometimes using Panda's free on-line virus checker.

This morning I ran AVG. Nothing found.
Then I ran Spyware Doctor. Again nothing bad found.
A little later I went to the Trend website and ran their free anti-virus scan. It came up with a bit of malware (IEHELPER) on my machine but said it wasn't able to remove it. So I then tried scanning my PC with both Spyware Doctor and Spyware Bot. Neither could find the malware, let alone get rid of it.

I use Mozilla as my browser and from what I understand about IEHELPER it only affects users of IE, but I'd rather it wasn't on my system. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get rid of it?

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Bob! download winpatrol, and keep it running in your tray, you can then just click on it to see if any ie helpers, (BHO,s) are lurking and shut them down or delete them. it,s also a free programme and will detect any changes to your pc or lappy! then you can get rid of all that useless AVG and other inefective spyware removal crap, it causes more problems than it,s worth, just run an online scan once a week at Ewido.

Thanks Lizard. I've found AVG pretty good so far... this is the first instance of something getting past AVG/Zone Alarm/Spyware Bot/Spyware Doctor/Mailwasher

I'm afraid AdAware didn't cure the problem so I'll give your solution a try.

Hope this thread is of use to others too! !happy!
