Evening all!!
When i was just a wee lad and still believed that if i sat really still and quite at the end of the setee my parents would forget i was there and not send me to bed (be honest im not the only one who tried that) i can just remember watching a show called "Dear John" on the BBC. Now as i sat there full of Findus crispy pancakes and picking the scabs of my knees this program seemed really funny too me. But as the years roll by and Allo allo is rerpeated yet again and i suddenly realise that what i thought when i was 7 to be ground breaking humour is actually....well pretty crap!! Can any one remember this show and was it any good? oh and on this note watched "Just good friends" on DVD the other night.....an over looked classic in my opinion!!
Sorry rambled on!! But all feedback really appreciated. Hope your all keeping ya peckers up chaps!!
Cheers
BB

I remember it well, and I rather liked it.

Can't remember what it was up against at the time but I found it very funny.
Don't think the US version was a patch on it.

Re: Dear John!!
The trouble with it was it dared to be different: an underplayed lead, avoiding the more tried and tested sitcom path. It was never going to be a classic, but at least Sullivan gave it a go. Like fresh cream compared with the cowpat that is The Green Green Grass.
Another couple of under-rated sitcoms from the same kind of era (and shockingly from ITV; as Harry Hill pointed out the other week, he's the only comedian left on ITV) were Shelley, with Hywel Bennet, and early TV appearances from Simon Callow and Brenda Blethyn in Chance In A Million.

The great Ralph Bates wasn't it as John?
I loved that show with Kirk

Re: Dear John!!
I've told my girlfriend all about 'Chance in a million', she's a lot younger than me and has no idea how funny it was. I have tried to get the series on video or dvd but to no avail, I looked on the channel 4 website, nothing; but if you want loads of dvds about Big Brother, celeb shite, you're sorted.
Bah!!!
If anybody has the series ( I know it's a long shot) let me know, definately willing to purchase.
