Abolish Ofcom

Post by Jacques »

It is a bloated and censorious institution that represents the tyranny of the minority.

The worst thing about this dickless quango, is that we pay for it through our taxes as well.

While I would love to join in with you guys heralding out the bourgeoise opinionated and censorious OFCOM I cant help but feel that Ofcom is not there to protect those intelligent enough to know better but the ignorance that is rife in the model majority (minority even) of which OFCOM represents.

I agree it is infuriating how safe they play this but if they werent there how much anarchy and chaos would happen if people thought there was no law or authority?

Youd get people filming bum fights (no pun intended), people taking a shit in the middle of the street as entertainment and films of rape ...Yes my friends, we can always bemoan censorship but it is there to keep the majority (or the sensitive minority) in line. Kind of like religion and we dare not go there...Oh no.

Still theres always the internet.

If Ofcon implemeted the TWF Directive correctly, were compatible with EHCR Case Law (Groppera 1990), used Burden of Proof based evidence, were consistent with issuing Prosciption Orders and were compatible with Article 10 of the HRA, you'd still have censorship but 'proper' and 'sensible' censorship based on objectivity and not personal subjectivity.

Excactly, you can see all this stuff on the internet, so ofcom is totally redundant, a throw back to more innocent times.

It being on the internet wont save you from the thought police once the 'extreme porn'bill goes through.

The Tellyban fine Xplicitxxx ?35k for broadcasting ?R18 or equivalent material'

But they don't fine a single one of the 'Free World' broadcasters showing ?R18 or equivalent material' every single day and available in your home quite legally.

Doesn't that strike you as a little bit inconsistant?

The whole thing is a joke. No wonder Sportxxx has toned down its output lately. Fined for R18 material all dressed up as protecting children. What bollox. From the BBFC's own list of what constitutes R18, the UK channels show certain R18 material every night. Kids are more likely to see hardcore sex on their mobiles than at 1:30 in the morning.
