Christ.
It's another Michael Bay produced horror remake. He did the same with Texas Chainsaw Massacre and I think he's doing Friday The 13th too. He just loads the cast up with generically beautiful people with no fucking character. Makes the thing look like an MTV video.
I think the excellent C. Thomas Howell and Jennifer Jason Leigh are being replaced by some generically beautiful people and Sean 'low-rent TV actor' Bean is the new Hitcher.
If the trailer is anything to go by its just another pointless soulless remake like The Omen. They're just out of ideas.

I'm not against remakes as long as they are good and have a more modern take on the genre. Theres a variety of reasons straight away in that trailer that will make me go an see it by the fact they have replaced C Thomas Howells character for a vulnerable female...She looks pretty too so that takes care of my superficial reason right there.

I'm not sure Sean Bean will have that terrifyingly cool aspect to him that Rutger Hauer did and since its made by the same producers of the recent remakes of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Amityville, I'm sold on it already.

The one thing that I will agree with Jock Strap on is that The Omen shouldnt have been remade. It was almost a frame for frame remake which is pointless to me but the reason they made it (capitalising on the marketing strategy by scaring bible bashers and god botherers worldwide by bringing it out on a significant date 6th June 2006) was simply because the new generation regard that cult classic as an 'old' film. For fucks sake its hardly the Jazz Singer innit?

I think it was real strange that the director of the original never went onto make other films. Thats always confounded me.

The theory is sound though.

He did do 'Nowhere To Run' with Jean Claude Van Damme in 1993, but you're right generally speaking all he's ever done apart from those two is made for TV shite.

Why Rutger Hauer didn't go on to be something big in Hollywood I'll never know, the performance he gave in 'The Hitcher' is IMHO one of the most chilling in the history of film. He was also good in 'Blade Runner' and 'Nighthawks' as well.

watching the trailer, they haven't replaced Howell with a female, the guy in the trailer is also Jim Halsey, its leighs Diner character that's been replaced with a girlfriend.

It still looks shit though. Sean Bean can't muster an ounce of the sadism that Rutger Hauer brought to the screen, and all the suspence seems to have been replaced with standard blood and cuts and things exploding.

Not surprising really when you realise that the director has only ever done music videos, and despite being one of the best in his field, its rare that the 2 jobs can cross over successfully, Spike Jonze and Michel Gondry being about the only successful ones, and they both had Kaufmans work to play with.

Ouch! Cant you give the man a break? it might be his break through movie. Its been made so I will see it then make my opinion from that.

Just because someone has a history of making music videos is not a reflection he cant make a feature film work. In fact it proves to me he probably could make a feature work....Look at David Fincher? Started his career making music videos with Madonna and he moved onto Fight Club , Seven, Panic Room and The Game to name a few. That guy makes interesting movies.

Fincher is one of cinema's most overrated directors.
He's made one very good film - Fight Club.
Seven was one of the most overrated films in recent history. A pretentious movie that only just cut the mustard.
Panic Room was passable but fairly pedestrian.
And I'm just not having the way critics have suddenly decided that The Game and Alien3 were good movies. They weren't. They were both shit when they came out and they're still shit now.
All these wanky film student types who rub their chins and claim the Alien was a metaphor for AIDS. FUCK OFF!!!!!

And no David. Making your movie look like it was shot through a jug of bisto doesn't make it good.

Sorry.
Rant over.
