Don't laugh, I was only 6 at the time, but I got my mum to buy me "Puppet on a String" shortly after Sandie Shaw sang it in the Eurovision Song Contest (1967)

First one I actually bought by myself with my own money was Hey Jude about a year or so later.

I only ever bought a few dozen singles whilst I have just over a thousand albums (700+ on vinyl, the rest on CD)
