The Fudgey take:
A nice wee film, almost a homage and, indeed, pastiche of 'The Wicker Man' from 1973. A lot of easy laughs with the slapstick, however the script is very cleverly written and well-observed with swathes of subtle humour too.
It is a bit over-long; at convenient points for an ending, the plot thickens further. However, there are good performances all-round from an all-star British cast, Timothy Dalton, some of The Office guys and gals, Jim Broadbent, Steve Coogan, and, fittingly, Edward Woodward.
I am a fan of Simon Pegg- his writing is always well done, and, Christ, he's a half-decent actor too; something I was previously not totally convinced of.
A nice wee synopsis and mickey take of police corruption, small-town incest and one man's fight against the System.
Go see. 4/5.
!happy!
