You cant photograph that....

Post by andy at handiwork »

In its infinate wisdom, the government is considering making it illegal to take photographs in public places without being in possession of a photographers ID card. Dont ask me how they intend to prevent the millions of tourists taking pics, or to stop mobile phone owners from running off a few snaps. There's a petition for what its worth, at

There really is no end to this governments idiocy and contempt for our civil liberties.

In case this doesn't interest some of you, those who see stealth taxes everywhere can be assured we will have to pay for the id card.

This is COMPLETELY wrong...you need sir to go back to the drawing board.

The government is doing NO such thing.

A few 'Amateurs' got up tight because they had their collar felt by security at some games they were photographing...which involved CHILDREN.

In a rage they put a petition onto the No.10 website spitting fire & brimstone about 'rights'...
If you read the latest on the "Amateur Photographer" site, you will see what I mean.

It's all been blown up out of proportion.

I.D.cards...claptrap.

Carry on photographing everyone, nothing been done at all.Just a small skirmish over a trivial point of order.

Moral of story-don't point your camera in that direction.I cannot see anything wrong in that, which makes common sense.

I don't see nothing wrong with photoing children at a game myself. If you know somebody's child there or if it's your own, nothing wrong with it. Or I guess if you just saw some children playing a pick up game and you thought it would make a nice pic, so what?

Further research would suggest that the intention is to allow local councils to do the dirty work as they see fit in their area. I came across the original piece in today's Observer in an article by Henry Porter, as perceptive a commentator on our shrinking civil liberties under this government as any.

Sadly, people seem to be assumed guilty until proven innocent when it comes to most things these days. Especially when it comes to tricky subjects.

If a man snaps his own kid holding up a trophy at the school sports carnival, thats sicko paedophillia and he should have his nuts cut off. If a woman photographs nude 5 year olds then thats 'art'. Simple.

She can even abuse them to make emotianally jarring photos of them crying and in distress - as one sick bitch does in the U.S. - and its still OK. Got it !!!!
