Multicultural society will only work if neighbourhoods become multicultural. Not 'White only', Muslim only', Mexican only', Black only' or 'Korean only' neighbourhoods.

Of course, most people don't want to live in a multicultural society, even though governments say they do. If they did then we wouldn't have ghettos would we?

To be honest I'd hate to live in a 'White only' neighbourhood. I like the diversity. One colour is boring! Nobody has the same colour carpet or wallpaper in every room of the house do they? !laugh!

I do however see the downside to the -part- multicultural societies we have today, where we mostly live in tiny islands within big cities, and it's unfair that people cannot seem to discuss these tricky topics sensibly without either saying something dumb, or being taken as having hidden racist agendas.

What hope is there of discussing problems and fears between cultures, if people are frightened to speak out in case they're labelled racist or a troublemaker?

Just like every devout Muslim, with a beard, seems to be treated as a terrorist these days, every White person is deemed racist just for questioning his countries policy on immigration. It's generalisation from all sides and no one seems to get the benefit of the doubt anymore.

As for the sort of job you'd get over here c.j. It really is about qualifications over here, and not colour. Regardless of what you read on these forums, the UK is the most broad minded, and least racist country in Europe. For real.

Mind you, it's damn expensive and the weather's shite! !rant!

Only informally! I guess the American version of 'fifty quid' would be '50 bucks'. Something you'd say to a friend rather than what a shop assistant would say!

Up north he could even say '30 bob' for ?1.50! Now that would be intergration !laugh!

Well I'm use to snow though I'd rather not drive in it and I guess y'all get a lot of rain. And I here it's cloudy quite a bit. Segregated neighborhoods are ok but if I go into an all chinese neighborhood to get some chinese food I shouldn't get jumped on. Same if you wanted to come to a black neighborhood to get the best ribs in town, you should be able to come with no trouble. But I don't think or never thought that you or anybody else was even teetering on racisim just for talking about multiculturism or multirace neighborhoods especially in it's true sense.

a 'bob' is 50p (like 50 cents) so '30 bob' is only ?1.50 (or $1.50)

30 quid is ?30.00 (or $30.00)

Another informal word for a pound is 'a nicker' though it's only really used foe ?1 and you wouldn't really say '45 nicker' for ?45. (like you could use 45 quid').

We also use ?5 = fiver, ?10 = tenner, while ?20 is a score.

Me either! So we're even! LOL! Depending on what part of the states you live at least at some time back in the day they use to say "five spot" or "ten spot" for $5 or $10 dollars. Five cents (a nickel) was called a "nick". See all this talk about culture makes me want to visit Britain one day. I don't know, maybe I'll catch Charmaine Sinclaire, Danica or even Sade walkin' down the street.

Actually pence is simply the plural of penny.

1p is one penny.
2p is two pence.
