Very intersting programme tonight. Certainly shot down many of the arguements put forward by the greenies.

It's become fashionable among politicians, which is why so much policy is now based on saving the planet. Is the science dodgy? Who knows. But are you willing to take a chance with all life on planet Earth?

Pollution is an issue, but I think far more worrying issues are the issues of population explosion and depletion of resources. The problem is that these particular facets of the greater environmental problem are not fashionable with the chattering classes. All these pretentious nutmegs going on about global warming don?t know jack, and deep down they don?t really care. They?re just espousing this particular issue because at the moment it?s fashionable amongst their peer groups ? it?s ?cool? in the way that donning a Che Guevara hat might have been cool for previous generations of hand wringers.

I missed the program, but I have an open mind. Both theories seem plausible (maybe the truth lies somewhere in between?). But whatever, one thing is clear, the earth is getting warmer ? and not on a geological timescale. It makes sense to take precautions right now or until we understand more clearly what is happening. But I ain?t givin' up me 4 * 4 ? it would be futile anyway, because one billion Chinese and Indians don?t give a monkeys. They are going to have their slice of the western prosperity pie - global warming or not.

Actually I saw a PBS program about a year ago that said the earth isnt getting warmer--it's getting colder. Seems all the pollutants released into the atmosphere by new & unregulated industries in India & China are masking sunlight from the earth.
I can say from personal experience that summers in Florida are IMHO not as hot as they used to be.
So I also try to keep an open mind. It may be that the planet is going thru a warming cycle or something. Still, if it truly is getting hotter naturally, I see no reason to abet the process. Why let politics stop us from acting rationally??
