Monitor Problem

In the last few days, my screen has been fluctuating in brightness. When it goes a little darker, there is also a bluish tint.

Is this a sign of the monitor itself dying, or is it an indicator of something wrong with the PC/motherboard?

The computer is a Packard Bell with a flat screen, about 3 1/2 years old.

Have you checked your connections because this happens with my screen but i know it is a dodgy connection on the comp that i havnt got round to putting right yet.

is there anything electrical or magnetic in close proximity, like speakers anything like that, that sometimes cause the monitor to go funny, or a big power pack directly behind, other than that yeah sounds like its about to die!

Could always hit it with a hammer - standard engineering practice. If that doesn't fix it I'd say it is either going to die or your graphics card is going to die or you have a dodgy connection somewhere.

Had similiar problems with my laptop. The screen in permanatley dark now - if you shine a torch at it though, you make things out. Searched a few internet forums and either my backlight or the invertor (bascially a flourescent tube starter) has gone. Do you think I can find anywhere that sells backlights and starters!

Actually, the darkening of the screen hasn't happened since I checked the connections, come to think of it.

Maybe that's all it was after all.

If it is a CRT monitor 1 gun can fail or be intermittant in the tube, or there can be intermittant connections to the tube or on the circuit boards.

If it is LCD and leads OK probably fault on circuit board.

With prices now not worth considering repair unless you have a mate who will look in exchange for a few pints / packets of fags / porn DVD or two.

It's now 24 hours since I gave the connections a shove and it's still fine.
