MK II Escorts

Post by BeestonBoy »

Hey all!!

Saw one of these beauties today. They still look bloody fantastic....even if they wont start in the morning!! They are a wee bit before my time and had mostly desolved or evoaporated before I had passed me test. Any one out there ever owned one? Are they as much fun as the look?

And whilst we are on the subject. Kinda been offerd a "Bond bug" for free. All though it needs alot of work. They have all ways been one of my dream cars (I have very simple dreams) Should I take it? Are parts easy to come by does any one know? Really want the little bugger!! Think they look fantastic even today!!

Ford. Hmmmmmm.

(F)ix (O)r (R)epair (D)aily

or

(F)ound (O)n (R)oad (D)ead

Wouldn't call that fun.

Not a Mark II admittedly, but I used to have an Escort RS Turbo - arguably the ultimate Boy Racer machine at the time (late '80s / early '90s). It WAS fun in the beginning - but once things started going wrong, they really started going wrong on a grand scale. In the end I became the laughing stock of my local garage as I was always having to call them out to rescue me (and this was pre-mobile phone days, so doing so often involved a long walk as well, to find the nearest payphone).

Since then I've steered clear of all things Ford - especially the older models.

A Bond Bug on the other hand is the ultimate in 70s retro cool (one of our neighbours had one back then and it was great), and if you've been offered one for nowt and enjoy tinkering with / doing up motors, I'd say take it! No idea as to the availability of spares though - sorry.

YIP,, and MK1's... Mexico's, 1300E's and a few rare ones. Never pushed one so they were not that bad. Best was the RS2000's. My best was a Burton powered one nicknamed eat my dust, That was the era for boy racers. I even bought a 3500 Capri. Ford was everyones choice, nothing came near.

Wheyhey! Nice one, Jim.

I had a brand new RS2000 back in 1979 - which was a big deal then, since all my pals were driving clapped out MK1 1100's. It was great. The RS 2000 bestowed instant Joe Cool status - and consequently, the birds were fair lining up to fondle my scrotum!

It would be cool if it was a droop snoot or a Magnum,,,,, ha ha. I had an Anglia with a Lotus engine in it, twin 48's, I used to cream the ass off McCrae on the clydeside road. Dibs Ford done a Burton powered version for Rally, it had XPack wings front and back. Skelly's gave me one for two stages in the Scottish rally. I still have all the footage from the old rallys with all the classics some shot on Betamax. Try to buy one now.

now you're talking...

My first car in 1991 was a low milage '78 1100L, a bit slow but nice to drive. Still got it (although it is in bits!), but I've got a few other mk2's from mint 1.3L's, tidy Ghia's (including a 1978 car that has done a mere 8.5K from new) and a lovely black '77 RS2000 I've had for 10 years now. I have a few project mk2's awaiting attention too!

I love the 70's Fords, they drive so well.... bit of a classic car nut though so I aren't just limited to Fords, amongst others I've some very tasty rare Opels

They're locking them up today, they're throwing away the key...I wonder who it be tomorrow, you or me?
