Seized Marines

Post by mrmcfister »

Couple of points...the troops seem totally at ease telling the world how well they are being treated and how sorry they are for straying into Iranian waters.Seems that the soldier bosses have told them to co operate if held in captivity and bollocks to the embarrassment it causes their political masters. My skin and family would be far more important than some rubbish escapade by Blair and his cronies too.Yea the Iranians shouldn't parade our people in front of the media but at least they are safe and well.

As for the assertion by Beckett that the troops were inside Iraqi waters..well thats OK then. She's got less talent than a well organised sub postmistress and after 10 years of spin can she really be that surprised if the UN tell her to fuck off with her teeth gnashing statement.I am quite willing to believe the troops may have been where they shouldn't.When you're dealing with duffers like the Iranians wouldnt you want to be a bit further away than a couple of miles from some imaginary line.

I wish the servicemen well but I am delighted to see how Blair and Beckett are being exposed as so crap and ineffectual.

Very embarrasing for the captain of the Cornwall. "Well we had a helicopter up"...... blooming lot of good that did.

I would have expected the captain to have positioned his ship between the borderline and the vessel being searched. This would have helped in seeing things coming from the east, and would have given a formidable sight for the little Iranian Pedalo's to have to go around/past.

I wonder if the Americans would have acted the same....
I can visualise it now little puffs of black smoke rising in 6 or 8 places, as the boarding crew return to their home ship safely. No need for any Beckett handbag whirling either....

If you were the boarding crew wouldn't you feel let down by your Government. What is the point of having a Type 22 Frigate if it can't protect against speed boats.

"The battle, the largest for American surface forces since World War II,[1] sank two Iranian warships and as many as six armed speedboats"

i'm afraid that hms cornwall is too big to go into the shallow waters in that area thats why it could not be closer than it was.lets face it the iranians saw a chance to humiliate us and it has worked,

I thought the incident occured outside of the Shatt Al-Arab and in the Gulf, which I had assumed to be deeper as they were a fair way from land. But I suppose sandbanks can still occur...... So very good point.

I do wish our Government would tell us more details, as it still seems amazing these Iranian boats were allowed to sneak up on them.... even with a Helicopter up!!!!. And the lack of defensive positioning of Cornwall..... Did it take any part or just watched...... how demoralising for the poor captives dissapearing in the distance.

Bloody Toothles Blair/Becket...... mind you if it had been in Thatchers time we probably would have invaded Iran by now..... not the correct thing Imho.
But a few missiles across the speedboats bows to stop them wouldn't have gone amiss.
