UK CITIZENS ALL SUSPECTS NOW
Re: UK CITIZENS ALL SUSPECTS NOW
You cannot be serious.
There have already been documented cases of forensic science errors over fingerprints, DNA gives them even more chances to fuck up. The DNA found at crime scenes is not pristine, crime scenes are not laboratories. The scientists have to reproduce the DNA traces and grow them. There are many ways in which mistakes can be made. Forensic science is very far from infallible, and not at all like it is made out in TV shows like CSI.
You must also remember that forensic science staff are not independent, they are on the same side as the police, that's just the way it is. If you are basing your trust in a universal DNA database on the independence of forensic science staff then you are building your argument on sand. Just because we can do something does not mean we should. The police have used fingerprints for over 100 years, but no government ever suggested that the whole population should be fingerprinted, until this present gang of crypto-fascists came along with their ID card fetish. You trust them if you want to, I think they are the sleaziest bunch of corrupt liars since the Third Reich.

This goverment is intent on collecting as much data as possible on the population of the U.K. so they can then sell it on to private companies who will then target you to buy their crap goods or shoddy services you only have to look at the electoral roll to see evidence of this, also a friend of mine went to open a new bank account the other day the girl asked him if he had one of the new type passports which he did the girl then said i can get all you details from it and just typed the passport number into the computer which then showed all of his details, why should private companies have access to this information !thumbsdown!

Alice,
You already have cameras talking to you and issuing orders such as "pick up the rubbish that you have just dropped!"

Robches,
Forensic scientists are mostly honest but can only examine the forensic evidence brought to them by the police. If a corrupt police officer in a murder case, for example, contaminates a suspect's clothes with DNA samples from the victim then the scientist will have to submit a report saying that he found the victim's DNA on the suspect.

I suppose you're meaning this is for the new ID cards the government are wanting to bring in for everyone? Yeah, they can have my DNA....over my dead body!

I agree up to a point, but the fact is they are not some sort of seperate part of the legal system, they are essentially an arm of the state, they work with the police day in day out, and will be bound just by the facts of life to be close to the police point of view.
Added to which, there are ways of growing DNA from tiny samples which are prone to error, and which the FBI for instance (and they have had more than their fair share of forensic science corruption in the past) will not use, but which our forensic scientists will. They then say, "we found this man's DNA at the scene of the crime, it's 4 billion to one it's not him" and it's basically case closed.
I just feel that we give forensic science a bit too much credence at times. Samples are, by definition, not collected in lab conditions, they can be subject to corrupt or accidental contamination, and the techniques used to handle and study the samples are not always as cut and dried as shows like CSI make out.

Robches,
Juries give far too much credence to forensic evidence and most of them do not believe that police corruption is possible. There is continuous propaganda about forensic evidence on television which the people believe reflects real life.
