FALSE URL APPEARING

Post by eroticartist »

Someone has hi-jacked my site and webmail and when I put the address of my site in the browser (or try to access my email) a false site appears totally unconnected to me!

I have emailed my host telling them of the problem and await developments.

How is this possible?

Quite simple really Mike. your site got hacked, someone used your hosting details to gain access, then uploaded thier own page, not rocket science, next time use a stronger encription password and username..

Lizard,
You wont believe this but my host now tells me that I owe ?18 for my domain registration (nominet I think). They gave me no warning but put up another page! If you put in the browser it appears!

Now because I am in Italy I am having a problem using my debit card and Paypal. Now I am trying to use my partner's credit card.

Lizard,
I have now settled the ?18 bill using my partner's Italian credit card. What a hassle! It was my Nominet registration I think because my hosting fee was paid. The site is now up again but I thought that the hosting company was servicing my Nominet.

I feel that I should have been emailed telling me and giving me the opportunity to pay it. I also think that it was a liberty putting up a site entitled eroticartist.co.uk selling porn and other sexual services, I could not access my email either.

Nominet are a big company, they do things by the book Mike, so they probably wrote to you, for 2 of my business's we always get a reminder, so I,m told, and it,s always in writing, still at least your back in business, anyway you should be tending your olives and tomatoes..

Mike, It would be worth checking with Nominet, that they have your correct email address, as registrant, you should get a reminder to renew, not just your hosts.

Alex,
I am now arranging a direct debit so that it can't happen again.
Thank you for the advice.
