According to this month's Computer Shopper magazine they suggest that the best AV protection you can buy is Steganos AV 2007. This software is closely followed by Kaspersky AV6.
After lab testing a number of different AV software products Norton is said to be very poor and very expensive!! Also, the much vaunted Panda, whilst having good email virus detection, has very poor spyware detection.
Grisoft AVG AV 7.5 which is free, performs better than many of it's rivals, although it has a below average virus detection rate.
The best AV protection.

Re: The best AV protection.
I'm using Avast now, free. Thus far, seems OK.
Re: The best AV protection.
Same here. I like the way it updates every day so I don't have to have a scheduled time that I have to be online.

Re: The best AV protection.
My newest computer mag has data on AV's effectiveness from AV-Comparatives.org.In Total Detection Rates Avast is measured at 93.86%--better than F-Prot or McAfee. AVG is 96.37, better than BitDefender. But Anti-Vir is 3rd from the top at 98.85. I have used it in the past & it works nicely. Does not allow direct email scans tho IIRC.Works well w/ other apps.

I'm sure we're all on tenterhooks waiting to learn which antivirus came out on top.
