Try going to Device Manager & checking to see if your sound card is truly shot. Maybe you just need a new driver.
If it is a hardware problem, whether you have integrated audio or a discrete audio card, you almost certainly have a PCI slot available. So you can go get pro help. There are cheap, basic cards available, but the install labor will still cost. You will have to decide if it's worthwhile to spend maybe 50 quid on a new card on a PC old enough to have Win 98 in order to have sound.

Re: PC Problem..HELP
I've gone to the device manager, clicked standard floppy disc controller, which has a red X over it.
"this device is disabled(code22) click to enable device to enable this drive"
On another bit it says Disc Compression not installed
No pc card sockets are installed
Any Idea's?

Have nil idea what a floppy drive would have to do w/ sound. Click that, see what comes up.Try 'Video & Game Controllers.'
Re: PC Problem..HELP
dont know what your budget is,but rather than spending say ?50 on sound card etc getting fitted on an old pc might be worth looking into maybe getting something newer for couple hundred quid if your in position to do

depends how pc/tech minded you are i guess, what i meant was is it worth spending ?50 on a pc running 98 when you could get quite a lot newer model for not much more cash
