Again, West Ham may have said that they would appeal, but the EPL knew they could not, for reasons as stated as above.
I'm pretty sure everyone is entitled to legal representation, putting their complaints forward to a legal body, and get heard. Even if the case is bollocks, I'm sure said system is obliged to listen to both sides properly before dismissing/agreeing to carry on.

Like I said: It wasn't about winning or losing, but the time & disruption which may have been caused.

Almost anyone with a complaint, and a lawyer can go to court.....and it's all time consuming, especially when you're talking in terms of multi-million pound corporations going head to head.

Regardless............why do you think they dealt West Ham such leniency compared to Middlesbrough who committed a lesser offence........oh Mr Questioner?

I doubt there will be any case, it will sink to the bottom of the pile of football corruption, the bottom line is now, if you can afford ?5m you can sign any player illeagaly (sp) and if he can score goals and keep you up or not that is that. A precident has been set now, there is no legal argument.
What's more interesting is to see how many of the big teams are flying out of the blocks to protest...such as Manu, Arsenal et al.
West ham knew what they were doing, they must have had a laugh when they were clobbered with a paltry ?5m, nothing compared to the money they might not have had.

The whole thing stinks to high heaven.

Last year Altrincham FC were docked 18 points for fielding a player with the wrong paperwork, that's 3 points for each game they won when he played. They would have been relegated but for another team going into administration.

In Alty's case, it was an honest mistake: they bought a player from Accrington Stanley who had previously played in Iceland, which meant they needed some sort of international clearance. Accrington did not know this, and Altrincham did not even know he had been playing in Iceland. These are both small clubs with limited back room staff and admin facilities. It was an honest mistake, yet Altrincham still lost the points because "rules are rules".

In the case of West Ham, we know that the transfer was illegal, that West Ham did not own the players' registrations, and that West Ham lied about it to the Premier League. The club knowingly acted in bad faith, and in so doing cheated every other Premiership club. That has been established as a fact, and yet they get away with a fine.

As I said, it stinks. It really is one law for the rich, and another for the poor. It's all quite sickening.

"I don't have a clue why West Ham were not docked points. That's why I was asking for ideas."

I think it's called spineless self interest, and corruption Wazza.

I am pretty sure that the list of clubs has shot up to seven against West Ham now, it will be interesting to see if another couple of the bigger clubs vent their anger against what has happened will the F.A./Premier League be forced to act.
The case against West Ham can be put forward in the House of Lords but I gather this might take too long to come to fruition, if I was the other clubs I would go down this line though as it might force the stupid twats that came to the first unsatisfactory (to everybody bar West Ham and Garth Crookes) decision into action as the English Premiership/Championship would be put in a state of limbo until it all got sorted out.

Bottom line seems to be cheating in sport is acceptable and has won the day. West Ham should have been punished severely and then the precendent was set for any club that stepped out of line again .... whether there face fitted or not.
PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?

I've followed this thread with interest (especially the exchange betwen Sam & WZR) but I think that crofter touches on the root of the problem there: West Ham are one of those clubs whose "face fits" (along with the likes of Newcastle, Everton and Spurs who I suspect would have been treated with similar leniency in a similar situation).

I think it's a safe bet that had the club in question been an "unfashionable" club like Wigan, Reading, Charlton, Boro, Blackburn or indeed Sheffield United though, points would have been docked in very short order.

As it is, a 5 million quid fine amounts to little more than a slap on the wrist for reasons already pointed out by others.

As Robches says, it stinks.

* Tevez wins a free kick which West Ham cross & score.

** Tevez scores equaliser. West Ham go on & win.

*** Tevez makes one, and scores one.

**** No assists or goals, but influenced the game.

***** No assists or goals, but influenced the game.

****** Tevez involved in West Hams 2nd & 3rd goals.

******* Tevez scores two, and makes one. He ran the game.

******** Tevez nets winner & West Ham stay up.

Without Tevez, West Ham would definitely be 11 points worse off. Indirectly he's influenced other wins in which stats do not show. Minus 11 points would make West Ham bottom on 27 points like so:

Wigan 38
Sheff Utd 38
--------------------
Charlton 34
Watford 28
West Ham 27
