He took part in an Oxford Union debate with David Lange (NZ PM) about nuclear weapons. NZ had declared itself a NZ free country. Lange followed Falwell and said.."I can smell the Uranium on your breath".

Falwell was the ally of Bush as he rallied the religiously insane of America's Bible belt behind Bush and drove him into power. Falwell was the enemy of the permissive society and liberalism, of gays, abortionists and pornographers and in doing so his rantings gave ammunition to radical Islam and its condemnation of the West as Sodom and Gomorrah, an immoral society that God wished to be destroyed.

Ironically the religious right desired the destruction of immoral, liberal America because they believed that they would rise up to Heaven in the Rapture. Falwell and his Moral majority had an enormous effect on American and is a warning to everyone in the UK what can happen if the religiously insane become too powerful.

Mary Whitehouse and her friend Thatcher tried to destroy the "permissive society" in the the UK but failed as Moral Majority have done in America. Abortion is available n demand, gays have civil marriages and pornography ,albeit state censored, is now legal. Falwell failed in the end and l for one am not sorry to see his evil presence removed from the world.
