Woeful Windies!!

Post by Trumpton »

The West Indies suffered their heaviest defeat in test matches today! England beat them by an Innings and 283 runs!!

In all fairnest England's bowling performance wasn't great and their huge victory must be in part due to the impressive Ryan Sidebottom.

It was also the coldest recorded day (7C) in test history!

Isn't it nice to have a thread which is NOT about bloody football?

I can't be the only one that longs for the days of Holdling, Garner, Marshall, Roberts, Croft, Walsh, Bishop, Ambrose, Richards, Greenidge, Haynes, Lloyd etc - England are SO lucky the Caribbean Kings are going through a slump at the moment.!

International cricket needs a strong West Indies team. Unfortunately the current Windies team is struggling badly at the moment and I can't see a winning remedy.

I think its great that we handed out the Windies biggest ever Test match defeat.

I am old enough to remember getting hammered from the great West Indies sides in the 70s and 80s.

But is this type of heavy defeat good for Test cricket as a whole?

So am I. England suffered the most at the hands of the Windies during this period!!

True. The same used to happen to Australia - although not for about 15 years!

That's like saying Australia are SO lucky England hadn't got a team better than them.

You have what you have.

As I understand it there has been for some considerable time many internal problems within the West Indies camp. Their 2000 tour of England was nearly called off becuase the players wanted more money. And their former captain Brian Lara was seen as a "difficult" person to get the best out of his players.

In the 80s I remember Unpire Dickie Bird saying that when he was unpiring he could not even hear Michael Holding as he ran up to bowl so light was Holding on his feet. Boycott also insists that Holding bowled him the fastest over he had ever faced in the West Indies in 1981, I think it was.
