rootkit scan

Post by mike johnson »

Respected AV co. Panda (pandasecurity.com) has a free utility to scan & remove these insidious malwares, which are not revealed nor affected by AV nor AS programs. The utility is small, & quick to download. No install, nor re-start needed, & the scan is similarly fast & easy.IIRC you do have to register & maybe get their newsletter. They also offer a free AV scan online.

Another freebie that does this is Blacklight, but it does have an EULA. Free only till Oct..

I tried the free scan and my AV (Avast!) threw up a warning that the Panda download contained a virus: win32:CTX!

Avast found nothing w/ my copy. Could depend on the download source.
