Again, I'm not in favour of overseas coaches. It must be a very sad state of affairs when the ECB wish/want to find an overseas coach as opposed to a home grown one. Remember what happened to David Lloyd? Booted aside to bring in Fletcher!

Allan Donald is not England's new bowling coach.

He is working with the bowlers for 2 Test matches with a view to maybe getting the job.

The long and short of is that despite his 300 Test wickets he has to prove himself to Peter Moores that he can coach and not just reminisce about how he took his 300 wickets.

You seem to think that by using Kevin Shine as an example proves your point. It doesn't. On your recommendation then why don't we get Ian Botham to be the bowling coach after all he took more wickets than Donald? He never practised, thought nets were for fishing and partied with the best of them but he took 350+ Test wickets so lets make him the coach hey?

I'm all for sport being about opinions but strongly disagree with you. Just because somebody played at the top level doesn't mean they can coach at the top level.

As I said before there are exceptions to the rule but the vast majority of the top coaches in all sports were average players at best.

Your right Shine didn't do a good job but then he didn't set the world alight as Somerset coach. He did have a tough act to follow in Troy Cooley though.

I hope Donald is a success with England but there's no guarantee. Managing your own game is different to managing others in many ways.

For me it's about gettting results, improving players and getting them to respond to the coach and not about having 300 Test wickets or 300 coaching badges.

For what its worth Donald strikes me as a great player but when little else
especially when the pressure is on

You could do worse than bring back some of the Brit oldies of yestertyear

Ala Bob Willis etc
