They may have had a cultural significance but they are still over-rated. They are the safe, money-spinning, housewives' choice, easy listening drab four.

The Beatles are the low alcohol lager of the 60s, all the promise none of the substance.

Its hard to think of the Beatles in a positive light when their success means that I have to hear Paul Macartneys pathetic new album from every radio and muzak outlet I pass.
Sadly the Fab 4 seem to be passing away in decending order of merit so that Macca will be the last to go. At least Ringo is invisible.

Totally agree Guilbert.

Perhaps being an Aussie and having this romanticised image of London in the swinging 60's helps. But I always thought The Beatles had a certain sound to their later work that creates a mood no one else could match. George Martin probably deserves a lot of credit for this too. The White Album, Abbey Road and most of Let it Be are my favourites.

The Beatles remind me of the Mona Lisa - nobody can really say what's so special about the smile, but you just keep wanting to take another look.

I cannot understand why the British slag off their own heros so much. Stop it.
