McCoy was given a thankless task. The Beeb were obviously trying to down the show, and lumbered him with Bonnie Langford and a giant Bertie Basset monster.

But he and the writers sneaked in a mysterious, cold and calculating alien side of him. And along the way, we did get a couple of decent stories out of his time: Curse Of Fenric and Remembrance Of The Daleks.

Baker (C) was lumbered with a twat of a producer, a bubble perm, and a costume that would make Ray Charles's eyes hurt.

I didn't like it to begin with, then gave up when it dawned on me I just wasn't part of its target audience.

Sadly, much of telly goes like this now. Not a case of "This isn't for me," more "This wasn't made for me."

So it's touching on racism is it now? Yes, very Reithian I'm sure.

She's got the legs of a rugby league player though.

That was a great little two parter. A bit runaround, chase me, shoot at me at times but the emotional content of the episode felt real. Unlike most New Who, they nailed it and it didn't feel like - "FUCK! We forgot the emotional bit. Tack it on here. And here."

It's stories done this well that make me even more disappointed with the junk they serve up far too often. If they can do it this well, why do we have to suffer shite like Gridlock?
