Bliar prepare for new job
Re: Bliar prepare for new job
Yadda yadda. I can't be bothered with this sterile discussion of whether Bliar was a failed lawyer or just a not very good one. Whatever he did in the 70's, he's been a cunt since he's been our Prime Minister. A lying, spinning, three-faced, corrupt, authoritarian cunt. My only interest in him is whether his heart lasts out longer than Prestwat's.

Lying, spinning, and three-face(ism) is essential in politics.
1. NO ONE will EVER be elected by stating truths. They get elected by telling people what they want to hear.
2. Three-face(ism) is a bare minimum in keeping a majority happy. Groups argue and have differing views, yet you need the votes of a majority of them to get elected, so you become a chameleon -always changing to suit your present audience.
Give me one long-term PM who hasn't been two/three-faced, and a liar?

So we are at least agreed that he is a corrupt authoritarian cunt then?

Liar? Yes; all politicians *have to lie.
Two-faced? Yes; all politicians *have to be that way.
Corrupt? In the same sense as dishonesty? Yes (see 'Liar' above).
Authoritarian? Not in practice.
All questions answered honestly. Now, where's that PM in history that was none of the above?
They're all the same Robches, that's my point. Blair is only the latest in a very long line.
* Figure of speech. They don't have to be anything, but to become successful in their chosen field, I feel they do.

I disagree, that would be like saying Chamberlain was the same as Churchill.
All Prime Ministers lie to a certain extent, they don't have to turn it into a art form like Blair has.
All Prime Ministers have put their friends and allies into the House of Lords, but Blair is the first one since Lloyd George to have had a little spiv selling the honours on his behalf.
All Prime Ministers like to exercise their authority, but Blair is indeed authoritarian. He seems to have no concept of civil liberties at all. He seems to think that if he, a "reasonably straight kinda guy" thinks something is OK, the fact that it shits over a thousand years of constitutional practice is irrelevant.
Think about it when you have to line up to hand over a hundred quid for the privilege of giving up your fingerprints and iris scans at the ID card centre in the next few years. That's Blair's Britain for you.

I cannot comment. I'm only 31 years of age.
What I can say is that Chamberlain & Churchill lived in a different world, where they didn't have 300 tabloid newspaper journo's following their every move. There wasn't 24 hour news channels either.
Agree or not, politics is more open today, with politicians more scrutinised than ever before. That's a good thing, but it means comparisons with the past is meaningless.
