That'll stop people drink-driving. Well done!

The magistrate could be a contender for Basil Fawlty's famous Mastermind comment, " specialist subject, master of the bleeding obvious"

Magistrate Elizabeth Cox told the crane operator: "This is totally unacceptable and very dangerous behaviour.

"This could have had very serious consequences not just for yourself but for other members of the public."

We had a woman round our way who killed another woman whilst driving under the influence (3 times over) and whereas she got a prison sentence, it was just a paltry 2 years.

The powers that be decided that as she had 5 children she could qualify for weekend leave after just 4 months and was released after 6 months.

At the time of the offence I wouldn't say that I felt sorry for her but I could see how one stupid mistake, one moment of total madness, could affect someone's life, someone who had (and I know it's a cliche) been a good citizen.

Not any more as I've had the misfortune of seeing the woman in question several times since her release and she is totally unremorseful for what she has done and has even said that as the woman she killed was in her late 50's and had had a good life that she shouldn't have done any time at all.

Absolutely incredible.

Drink driving wrecks lives and this clown who drunk 25 pints and had previous for drink driving should have done time. Prisons maybe full but sometimes a statement has to be made to stop this type of stuff happening again.

Sadly that didn't happen here.
