Doctors are considering calling for an increase in the legal age for buying alcohol to combat an alarming rise in teenage binge drinking.

No one under the age of 21 should be sold alcohol in supermarkets, off-licences and other retail premises, a British Medical Association conference will be told next week.

But the current age restriction of 18 would still apply in pubs.

I'm not in favour or raising the age limit, and am in favour of 24 hour drinking.

Raising the age limit just takes the responsibility away from these teenagers. I found, while I was in America, that an American 18 year old is much more childish and irresponsible than their European equivalents. The kids just organised house parties instead, turning up in cars, drinking half a bottle of Vodka and then driving home on the Freeway. This is very rare among youths in the UK.

Yes, there are irresponsible teenagers, but I've found that most trouble in City centres is due to either 35 year old men, or freshly divorced 50 year old women, who are load, rude, obnoxious............and generally a right fucking pain in the arse.

Teenagers usually act up, but they're either thrown out by security pretty easily -being on average 9 stone- or give them half an hour, and they're throwing their last meal, along with all their hard earned wages, down the nearest toilet, and falling asleep, laying in someone else's urine.

Getting pissed and falling asleep in toilets, or hanging on street corners setting fire to bins?

I say let them have their fun. They'll meet a bird who they love pretty soon enough, and grow out of it............mostly. You're always gonna get idiots, and teenagers are always gonna get pissed. Let them be, and clamp down on the horrifying divorcees!

Having spent lunchtime in my local pub, I've just realised that nature created human beings solely to consume all the surplus alcohol in the universe.

As for 'dark matter', well that is surely just lots of Guinness, holding the universe together.

IIRC I read in Carl Sagan's book 'Cosmos' that the most complicated chemical compound found floating about in space is ethyl alcohol. In fact, a huge cloud of it exists a few light years away. Maybe The Prime Mover was trying to tell us something.....Lord knows, on this planet the stuff has encouraged a lot of acts of procreation--women being much worse at processing the stuff than men, & more likely to do certain things under its benign influence that they might not otherwise do.

Wazzer, In Manchester and London and Newcastle, liverpool etc, some pubs are open 24hrs, or at least they could do legally, any road up, I,m more concerned with peoples behaviour than the amount of booze they can buy.
Cheap booze, plentiful and readily available, thats what Bambi delivered. We already had a massive drink problem in the UK, so making it available day and night to people who just want to get hammered (hammertime) doesn,t strike me as the act of a responsible Government.
So already the problems are surfacing, and the Government dont know how to handle it.. so they introduce yet another set of laws 3000 and counting, to try and counteract thier blind stupidity- just like the H.I.P.S fiasco,- they are truly a bunch of medical cretins.
