Oh no, not another race thread!

On this particular subject, I look at myself.

Plenty of Americans, Australians, Irish, Welsh, Scottish, French, Arabic...............Inuit(!) have their names & jokes about the English. I've heard them on my travels, but I was never offended.

Why? British mentality of being able to take a joke.

I honestly think it takes two to get offended (the offender, and the offended) Both take responsibility under certain circumstances. I've only seen Bernard Manning on an old vhs tape from about 10 years back. He took the mick out of everyone, and there were loads of black people in the audience.

If someone is offended by a 'joke' then under certain circumstances they have to take a look at themselves. Some people can be too easily offended these days, and shows a lack of understanding.

Telling a joke about a particular race/nationality may be offensive, but they're called 'jokes' for a reason. Only a robot will live year after year, never offending, or being offended. It's part of life and isn't just a feeling Black/Asian/Irish people get. All races are allowed to get offended.

I recently watched Ricky Gervais in which he ripped into fat people, ginger people, the handicapped, stupid people, lazy people, cross-eyed people, big-nosed people....(you get the idea). The audience all probably fell into 1 category or another, or at least knew someone close to them that did, but it was humour.

It works because we live our lives being told what to say, how to act, and even how we should think at times. Humour breaks a few barriers, and cracks a little ice for a few seconds upon telling a joke. Laughing at the joke, or enjoying passing it on, it's harmless and means nothing of ones serious beliefs.

We all enjoy watching a good war film, or a horror. It doesn't mean we're all raving psychopaths. Women have fantasies of being raped, which isn't what they really wish for walking through a lonely car park home from work. Laughing at a joke about another race/nationality doesn't mean you support the bnp. Someone told a joke on this forum not long ago about making a woman feel so, by ironing his shirt. Does this mean the guys a wife beating chauvinist, where a woman's place is in the kitchen?

Like I said: It takes two people to get offended, and sometimes it's great to laugh at yourself once in a while.

Get offended by inequality and discrimination by all means, but not jokes......!nuts!

There was no slip-up.

The English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, French, German, Western Russian, Norwegian, Icelandic etcetera are all members of the same race, namely Caucasian.

Worked with him once on one of his comedy videos. I found him to be very charming and polite all the way through the weeks filming.
