Good evening all
Just wondered did any one watch this on Film4 this evening?
Such an absolute joy to watch every time. It has all ways been one of my favourite books and uniquely the film is also one of my favourite's.
The casting, sets, acting and directing are all just faultless. The sceen play stays so close to the book as well. It really does show what a master of the art David Lean was,and of course what a truelly fantastic writer Dickens was.
Film4 being as it is,it will be on again later this week. If by any chance you have not seen it,I urge you to watch it.
British cinema during its finest hour and not a syringe or robbery in sight
Peace out
BB

Great Expectations (1946)
'I see the usual gang of misfits and dope addicts are here'
Re: Great Expectations (1946)
I saw it as a kid----the scene in the graveyard right at the start draws you in. As a result, I picked up the book and read that. A sheer delight, and one of my favourite books.

I've got it on VHS - somewhere! I'll dig it out sometime and take another butchers.
Re: Great Expectations (1946)
Thanks, BB. Big fan of Dickens, Wilkie Collins, but never got into Hardy, for example.
I recently watched some other classic British films of that sort of era, from the brilliant Archers (Powell and Pressburger). If you ever gets the chance, watch I Know Where I'm Going!, Black Narcissus, A Matter Of Life And Death and, especially, The Life And Death Of Colonel Blimp. These men were geniuses.
