Why don't they just double the price of Big Issue & pay a few hacks to cobble together summat worth reading eh?? Otherwise I'd rather chuck a couple of quid into an open guitar case than carry home such a pitiful waste of wood pulp...

I recall in November 98, I walking in Glasgow and saw this Big Issue "sellar' staggering all over the place. He saw me looking at him and deliberately walked (staggered) over to me and asked if I'd buy a Big Issue. I told him to 'fuck off you pox ridden motherfucker!'. He then spat at me! I had a steak pie which I had just purchased and it was very hot! I mushed this very hot steak pie into this bastards face. He "fell" over!

I went round the the Police (Polis) station and reported what had happened. The officer couldn't have been more unimpressed with what I told him and I was convinced that at one stage he even tried to surpress a giggle!

If he hadn't spat at me I wouldn't have mushed the steak pie (from Gregg's) into his face and he wouldn't have *cough**cough*"fallen" over! But I was really angry about the spitting!!

1st man: "Big Issue?"

2nd man: "fuck off you pox ridden motherfucker!"

1st man: *spit!*

2nd man: *splat!*

1st man: "argh yabasa!"

2nd man: "Officer, arrest this man!"

Selling the Big Issue is not going to solve the problem of homelessness. It doesn't teach a skill and it doesn't benefit the community (in my opinion its damaging to the tourist sector). I think that more control is needed over where it can be sold and stronger vetting of the sellers.

Many of the people who sell it are down on their luck so giving them confidence back is a good thing, but I don't think this is the way to solve the problems that many of them have. Not that I know the answer.
