Own up, Keith----you're a Squib, and got kicked out of Hogwarts.

It engages people's imaginations. Just because it isn't your cup of tea doesn't make it bad.

As a kid, I read the legends of King Arthur. Not once did I stop and criticise it for perpetuating a positive attitude of the feudal system.

Where do you stop? How many working class people appear in the novels of Jane Austen, or P. G. Wodehouse?

I read this at work, hey they was paying me ;P

Pile o'shite, would rather have watched paint dry.

The magic in her books, have too many rules and theres too much right and wrong in it, and chivalry, i mean I could bearly keep up with that was going on with that death thing, so how the hell the thing its self was supposed to know was truely magical.

Worst 10-12 hours of my life, on equal par with spending 4 hours on a train with orthadox jews or and aimish people with no where to go :P

It is said that both love and truth walk hand in hand. But if the need is great enough, can we learn to love a lie?

Childrens imagination allows them to see it as it's written, none of the complexities of life, etc.

To them it's just a story of magical people battling monsters & such, that's it.

As long as they don't start preaching the virtues of their religion, they are just the same as any other person, albeit some of 'em wear weird-ass clothes.

So you'd ban anything that doesn't fit in with your narrow view of the world, then, Keith. If it's not realistic, it's not worth reading.

All science fiction and fantasy---bye-bye. Romances, gone. Austen, Wodehouse, presumably Twain. All the Enid Blyton books (ridiculously old-fashioned and rather middle-class claptrap, I'd agree, but a gentle introduction to reading for small children).

As Oscar Wilde once wrote, we are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars. But dreams are now verbotten, and the lesson to be learned is all your hopes end up as a dead bird of prey in the dustbin of life.
