Dire. Take away Richard Burton and you have on very dated and weak album.
However not anywhere as bad as Tubular Bells, fuck me that is pile of cack.

Comapred to some other contemporary 'rock-opera vanity-projects' [to
coin an inelegant phrase]: tentative hit.
And at least aural-semolina-purveyor-half-troll-half-undientified-
hunchbacked-rodentman Lloyd-Webber never went anywhere near it

A lot better than some of the supposed 'music' nowadays.

Interesting and entertaining marriage of spoken word and anthem/pop/faux-classical etc. Still popular too it seems.
Note that at the time of its initial release Hollywood was already well into its campaign of turning science fantasy into a regular crowd-drawing spectacle, so it was good to see something of the same staple tap the imagination via the ears alone.

It had its moments----and the best speaking voice known to man.
But then, I liked Tubular Bells.

Yes the original radio broadcast was so good that the listening public thought it was for real
