Motorbikes

Post by planeterotica »

Have you ever owned a motorbike or do you still have one, i purchased my first motorbike back in 1966 when i reached the age of 16 and those days at that age you could go out and buy a bike up to 250cc put some L plates on it and with a provisional licence you was on the road, my first bike was a Ariel Arrow 250cc not the one in this photo i nicked that pic of ebay which was one of the earlier 2 strokes but was still capable of doing in excess of 80mph and combine this with the fact that there was no law that you had to wear a crash helmet these were lethal machines, weather permitting i would be out with just a T shirt and jeans with the wind blowing through my hair which i had plenty of those days not so much now and yes i did come a cropper but luckilly escaped with just a bit of gravel rash and as soon as i passed my car test at 17 got on to four wheels a 1956 Standard 8 but thats another story and in case you are thinking where i got the money from to buy these things i left school at 15 and worked hard and saved for them so how did you first get on the road !cool!

All that without a single fullstop. !wink!

Used to have a few bikes as a teenager. Had a few scrapes as well.

We may have crossed paths crackers, back in the 60s loads of bikers use to congregate at Lenny Johnsons cafe on the A20 at West Kingsdown just along the road from Brands Hatch, someone would put a record on the juke box and the dare use to be for them to get on their bikes go past Brands Hatch down Death Hill which was its official name back then but since renamed Gorse Hill to the roundabout and back in the cafe before the record had finished, i heard stories that some went further and made it back but i wouldnt know about that, one of the records at the time was a Mike Sarne song called Terry Remember Me {does anyone remember it} it had the motorbike revving up in the background. !cool!

I remember Terry......

He said to me he wanted to be near to me
He said he never wanted to be out of my sight
But it's too late to give this boy my love tonight
Please wait at the gate of heaven for me, Terry
............
One day he'll know how hard I prayed for him to live
Please wait at the gate of heaven for me, Terry.

Terry, Terry, Terry

Music only .-

But there is no motorbike reving though and I do remember a song that had that.

Yes thats the song {Terry} thanks for that crackers i got slightly confused about the song and singer well it was a long time ago, i believe the song was banned by the BBC at the time because it caused a lot of young bikers to crash their bikes? or am i thinking of a song {Tell Laura I Love Her}

A.J.S 250 short bore, 105 top speed, gave it to my younger brother after one ride when the helmet law came in. I was 17 at the time, just could not enjoy the ride with a skid lid.

Fucking love them ......

My 1st venture onto to wheels with an engine was a Puch Maxi with pedal power as well .... belonged to my mum .... i didn't give a fuck how embarrassing it was i was mobile on two wheels.

2nd Bike was a MZ 50cc with the ball busting petrol tank ... if you braked to hard you would crush your balls on the petrol tank ... that lasted about 6 months till my old man decided to strip the engine to see how it worked ... i had to take it back to shop with head hung low and asking if they could put it back together again ... i was still a teen then.

Now we go into my drug fueled biker days in Reading.... how i'm still alive i don't know

Yamaha RD125 with the twin cylinders ... good bike but no real excitement.

Suzuki X7 250 .... retuned for racing, expansion chambers, racing reeds, bored out and a skimmed head .... for a 250 it went like shit of a shovel.

Yamaha RD 350LC .... at the time it properly the fastest little two stroke you could buy .... great bike and sounded great.

A brief affair with a Kawasaki Z1000 .... that was one lethal machine, great in a straight line but come to a corner at any speed and your in trouble, had this bike for less than a week.

Kawasaki GP 500 ... did not like this bike.

Suzuki GS 500 .... OK machine had some fun on it but still needed that extra boost.

Kawasaki GT550 .... in my courier days .... good workhorse.

3 x Honda CBR 600 .... loved these machines, fast, agile and great bikes to wheelie and do stunts on.

Then up till 7 years ago my real pride was a Honda CB 1000 The big one ... this was a bike you had sex with it was just the best fucking bike of all time. Zero to 60 in just under 3sec, Wheelies at close to 80MPH and the torque on this bike was out of this world. Sadly some Bitch in a Rav4 backed onto a main road and took me off, Lost 2inchs off my right arm, crushed nerves in my left leg, lost a huge chunk of my memory (head 1st through windscreen) so that pretty much stopped my biking adventures.

now ask me about the women in my life .... it'll be a blank page with a few names on it .... funny how i remember my bikes with more fondness than any of the girls in my life.

I first started riding bikes when I was 15, then I thought I should take a test. In those days the test consisted of some guy standing in front of you in plain view, holding up a clipboard. This was the "Emergency Stop". Not much of an emergency though, 'cause I had to actually drive up to him and then stop! So it was hardly a surprise!

I then went through a load of different 2 wheel makes, Lambrettas, Vespas, then a Yamaha XV750 which I loved, Harleys, (except people kept deliberately trying to run me off the road on), Kawasakis, until now, where I own a Honda Fireblade RR which is fun. Although I must admit I've lost my bottle and I am thinking of selling it and staying on 4 wheels.

There are too many nutters around now, people with no insurance, dodgy licences, women who don't ever use their mirrors etc, etc. So I think the risk is now too great ,or maybe I'm just getting old.
