They blamed his boots for causing that injury just before the world cup as well. Do you think there might be a message here Wayne?

I do blame the boots, there are far more injuries to players feet these days. I can remember when football boots actually gave some protection and support to your feet and ankles and were not modified running shoes as they seem to be today.

Yeah, and I remember when footballers just booted the ball up the pitch for the big man to head in.
The game's changed, the boots too have had to evolve. Yes, they do offer a little less protection, but they offer a lot more flexibility and are lighter. Allowing players to move faster, turn, do tricks.
Rooney wears the 90 boots, these aren't the lightest, flimsiest ones in the Nike range, that flair players like Cristiano Ronaldo wears. So they do offer more protection than some.
I don't blame the blame the boots. If your foot bone is applied with as much pressure needed to break a bone, a few mms more of leather isn't going to make that much difference.

I really do think it's just the pace of the game that causes such injuries. Even just going back 20 years to Maradonna's goal against England; he was tricky, but he'd look like he was dribbling the ball in treacle compared to even some of the slowest players we have on show today, in the EPL.
It's just the power and speed of impacts that cause the breaking of bones. We can train our muscles to be more flexable, or stronger, but bones are bones I'm afraid.

The '90' boot is the worst-looking boot I've ever seen, an ex-girlfriend notwithstanding.
