But because the volume on mp3s varies wildly from one track to another
I normally set the volume on the speakers almost to max and use the
player's control to adjust each track..... and my new PC was defaulted by
Mrs JJ to RP when she put the software on, rather than the WMP I had
hitherto used.

I've noticed the variance in quality of tracks

Doesn't seem to matter what speed they were uploaded at

Its a sad day when george harrison singing my sweet lord sounds louder than motorhead screaming out ace of spades

The price of free music I guess

Throw "Real Player" in that fucking bin thing in the corner of your PC and Empty The Fucking Thing > trust me you won't regret it as it is always trying to take over your pc and install all sorts of shite addons, best media player bar none (for my set up anwyays) is Nero Showtime. Tends to give a better quality of audio than Windows Media Player.

I certainly don't mind paying for them, as long as I can d/l the individual
tracks. I can't think of many albums whose every track is a 'keeper', and
there a lot of albums with only the one decent track, so I prefer to compile
my own stuff.

I used to think that Crofter but recently downloaded the free version 10
which came with the no spyware guarantee here

As yet it hasn't tried anything fishy like it used to on real player 7,8 & real one, gold.

The secrets probably in that I only programmed it to play video for rm
clips and for absolutely nothing else

Very few albums are ever complete but still worth an initial listen to pic out any stand outs that never got aired as a single

Give me the best bits of the biggest composers of classical music in a compilation any day

Apparently this is how women do it

Yes ok Buttsie, but strange how a few people on that download link are complaining that it does add some nice spyware on your machine ... I will stick with what I am happy with - which I suspect most people tend to do anyways. I personally can do without installing Real Media Player even when needed I just choose not to view those files if I cannot get anything to play them (unlikeley).
cheers
crofter.

I'm not disagreeing with your appraisal of real player as its past behaviour
