How do you know it is private companies planting? I haven't heard a thing.

Who pays these companies...
If it is our government paying then the money can only have come from a TAX.
If our government isn't paying then what the heck is happening to the money they are collecting?????

btw
When I said I hadn't seen any planting going on down here (South East England)..... just lots of house building/concreting over of our garden of England.
You mentioned a while ago.-
That the planting doesn't have to be in this country.
If that is the case it really pisses me off. We end up spoiling/polluting our green and pleasant land and use our "Pollution Tax" money making someone else's country green and pleasant.

I have just calculated my carbon emmision HERE

It's ?4.58p + ?2.50p post and packaging!!!! and I can send them the money.....
Now for all I know this could find it's way to our friends in Nigeria who often look for handy ways to make a few bob.
As far as I can see there is no ACCOUNTABILITY on this planting lark.

And if any planting is actually going on it should be in the country where the emmisions are being created full stop.

"What money are you actually talking about"

Errrrr what do you think... christ you are pedantic.

"it doesn't really matter"..... what!!!!!!! you must be mad saying that about money obtained by a tax.

"Have you ever looked up a web site about carbon offsetting
but as you keep saying you know nothing about them whatosever"

If you click on a the carbon emmision link I posted you would realise how stupid that pompous statement you made about me not researching was unfair to say the least.

"restricting offsetting to land owned by the worst polluters seems pointless. One world!"

The people living in the worst polluting countries may well benefit by keeping the money in their country and help improve their living environment/conditions..... and it would probably help sell the tax to the population. And as you say would still benefit the world.

I am trying to see if you have helped answer any of my concerns and you have completely failed to win me over.

Of course I do not want to live in a polluted world but neither do I want to be taxed and not have any information/confidence on what happens to the money taken from me.
The hippy peace and goodwill trust they will plant trees attitude is not acceptable by me.... and I am sure I am not alone in that thought.

Being barred from flying if you don't pay up doesn't smack of a voluntary tax for this.

Great bit of debating 100% convinced now, you have such a way of politely pointing things out!

If you've got the money why not fly your own Plane(not jet)into your backyard/frontyard

I wonder if they've factored this little anecdote into their protest

An argument has been made that vehicle exhausts (and Aircraft Contrails) actually have been keeping us cooler for the last few years.

If we eliminated all such pollution overnight then global tempratures would rise quicker than they appear to be doing already.

There was a study to that effect following the 9/11 attacks when aircraft were grounded in the US where temperatures went up by about 1.5C in a few days.

Maybe its already too late to change

Its a catch 22....plant more trees which catch more carbon except if they don't get regular water in which case they'll start releasing the stored carbon on mass as many of the worlds rain forests are currently doing
