I have security on my PC and pay for none of it.

AVG Anti-Virus is excellent and there is a free version for home use.

Zone Alarm firewall is also excellent and has a free version.

Adaware for finding spyware is also free

Good tip, AVG is free and does a good job. Another free firewall is Comodo Personal Firewall (www.personalfirewall.comodo.com) and another good spyware program is Spybot (www.safer-networking.org). Install these and you should have no worries.

Norton is a pain in the ass...like a giant dinosaur...consuming all in its path

Even microsoft in their XP mag mention AVG(anti-virus) & Zone Alarm(firewall)
as preferred freeware

I've used both and found zone alarm PAINFUL....almost as bad as norton

AVG has never let me down

Theres a list of the best in both categories with links to the programs

I used to have AVG but I now prefer Avast! because it updates automatically.

Another vote here for AVG.

I use it and unlike Norton, it does its work without taking over your computer. Norton caused me to do a complete re-install of XP just to get rid of the fucking thing which kept closing down my machine with no way of stopping it from doing so.

AVG updates automatically ?

Least it does on my 2k file server ?
