I agree. I did have Norton and it was like a heavy tank using up plenty of resouces for what reason I don't know?

I now use Steganos AV 2007. It's one of the best on the market! Not free though - it cost me 20 quid. I did have a few problems installing it, but that's been rectified now and it's running excellently!!

In my experience it only updated if you had your computer switched on at the set time.

I had Norton pre-installed on to my laptop. When I changed to Steganos I simply uninstalled Norton.

If you do have trouble just go to Symantec's website you can download an uninstall tool from there. I uninstalled Norton 2006 last year that way with no problems.

I used to run Norton on my PC and it too thorough, it took 15 minutes to run before I could log on. Dumped it and went with MacAfee via AOL and hey presto, 90 seconds and I can log on. Norton is more suited to a commercial set up. MacAfee is fine but I am sure there are other good products out there.

I gave up with Norton 3 years ago.

I use AVG. It was auto updating but since it downloaded a larger than normal update last week it has stopped doing so. Manual update not difficult just a need to remember every few days. I might try removing & reloading.

I used to use Zone Alarm too but agree gone down hill.

Now using Comono. Fine for me but does seem more interactive asking permission for applications to access internet so perhaps less good for non techies.

Also running Spyware Terminator. Have used both Adaware and Spybot but from some reports too much now gets missed by them.

The next step up from adaware & spybot for its real time protection which includes anti-virus(optional).
