A classic (well in my mind anyway) rap lyric comes from the venerated Carlton Ridenhour aka Chuck D

When I get down
I give and get around
and when I cough
I do my best to cut it off
I dont claim to be a preacher
not paid to be a teacher
but what I do
is try to be a leader to the bone

Never could follow a man with a bottle,
he's a baby with a beard
and not a feared role model
and they ask me where i get it
I got it from my pops
and when the man is in the house
then all thebullshit stops

then a sing a song
about what the hell is going wrong
you never know
you can ever trust a tv or a radio
the station cant see whose in cahoots
because the KKK are wearing three piece suits

I be honest I got into Public Enemy by their thrid album as I dint really get rap preferring the stag offerings of NWA but I really matured with Public Enemy and Ice T. As for Tupac. i felt I found a diamond in the rough when a mate came back with 2Pacalypse Now LP and I heard the very sad song of Brendas Gone Have A Baby thenn there was an ode to his mother on Dear Mama on another album and realosed rap had a lot of scope in it style and approach and nbot just about the gangbanging bitches and ho's people associate with it.

Then he signed up with Suge Knight at Death Row and brought out that Makeveli stuff which was full of venom and hell fire...I knew he was going to get in trouble for that. i just didnt bank on him getting shot dead for it is all.

I think you'll find people do care but for most it stays indoors hidden behind the curtains.

If people actually told the people who could do something about what's happening the problem will go away, especially now and in light of recent events.

Its hard and takes time I did it (the official way) and got loads of abuse but the little angels (who a few years ago would have had the shit kicked out of them as soon as they started playing up) 'play' somewhere else now.

Erm, well on paper it sounds like cleverly written lyrics but if you dont know Public Enemy the sound might be a bit...well...Pro black militant against a cacophony of bombastic sounds...and may I hasten to add this doesnt connote racism to white folk. Just black empowerment.

Some seem to be threatened by this as if this means kill all whiteys which it does not. Just a bit more radical than say James Browns "say it loud (I'm black and I'm proud) but er...lets not go there eh? Too heavy a subject that ruffles some peoples sensitive feathers.

...So sticking to the subject at hand I just brough this up to say not all rap is to blame for violence, merely a mirror of it and there is generally a pro positive aspect to it all...If you actually understand the lyrics behind the music.

A lot of kids have selective hearing and pick out what they like like fuck, bitches, ho's and guns and just think its cool because its not some corny love song...Oh and it makes em feel hard listening to it.

I remember one kid swaggering up to me with his baggy pants speaking in a drawl. The guy was white but acted blacker than me banging on about Wu Tang until he finished his speil and I re educated him on what Wu Tang stood for and it was totally lost on him.

I've actually met quite a few rappers and believe it or not they come across as really nice guys. I havent met one yet who came across like his personae.

Tim Westwood grates on my nerves because he is one of those guys that tries to act black (probably to be accepted) when his fan base wouldve been equally cool with a cockney sarf london wide boy...Just be yourself. Thats what rap is really about.

You would never catch me throwing up a peace sign and speaking like that.

Big up all yard massive! Booyakka boo-yakka!

Peace.

Benders- good, Gays- bad?
There's nothing like consistency.

Well, constituency's a lot like consistency. And so is constipation

to be]......
