Well the silly scenes are only there to pad out the performance, how else you gonna make a scene, otherwise the producers would have to pay for more talent to do the biz so they can sell their hours worth to the distributors. Now that wouldnt do would it.

Ben Dover hasn't done that type of set up for a long time. I watched Ass Worshippers this afternoon, for example, and in no case was there any pretence that any scene was anything other than pre-arranged.

Buttsie, I think you've already answered your own question by noting that gonzo is 'tried and proven'.

I suppose those pesky Americans I have previously defended have not helped matters by the release of 'super-gonzo' (my addage!) from the likes of Ed Powers and the ridiculous content many of them include.

Done 'properly', if gonzo can be (?) I think it's a-ok!

Gonzo won't die - and neither will g/g, or Vivid-style, or any other style of porn. Individual companies and directors may come and go but others will always replace them.

The scenarios in Gonzo - whether elaborate or a simple chat - do involve acting and dialogue (whether scripted or elaborate). It certainly improves porn for me if I have an idea of the personality of the stars - whether genuine or assumed.

Of course it can be done well - or done very badly. In that respect, porn is no different from any other walk of life!

You are a perceptive man indeed Jay. The crucial thing is the "build up" which creates the sexual tension (that soucon of adrenalin in the pit of your stomach when it becomes apparent that sexual activity may be in the offing) you must have the build up, you must set the scene if you are going to create any tension at all. It matters not that fans have to fast forward - even though they may whinge - by having to fast forward they have to put some effort into getting to the prize (the exciting sex scene) thus, whether they are conscious of it or not, it creates a little excitement and tension for them to.

The alternative is the awful cheapo 'Travelodge' productions (usually British I regret to say) where we join a bland (at best) couple on a bland motel bed, who proceed to whip off their uninspiring kit in two minutes flat and then launch into a monotonous bout of humping that lasts for another 58 mins, all on the same tiresome bed. I'm afraid this unimaginative short sightedness is, at this very mo, killing the goose that laid the golden egg. Yes, gonzo is dying and sadly taking the rest of adult video land with it too. Real punters out there on Civi Street are no longer buying into it, because it's unappealing crap. On the whole it's not real sex like real people would have, the performers are artificial, there's no tension in it, so it?s not exciting, it's just going through mechanical motions at an industrial pace. How erotic is that?

But maybe gonzo needs to die, the market is oversupplied with this bilge (not that contempary American big budget is any more alluring) Weeding and pruning may yet be the salvation of adult video. Once the cowboys have realised they can't make any dough doing stuff on the cheap and dropped by the wayside maybe it will leave a few large outfits making quality branded products, with appealing performers - which may even include an eveolution of gonzo!

Still do not know what Gonzo is.
If J. Walker & myself understand correctly some of these posts, then I produce (that's not the word!) Gonzo.
I interview wannabees and they are just that - period. Some go on to bigger and better things, some are never heard from again.
Tne only drawback with this series is ME. I'm an old fucker, not a handsome young stud and hence, not veryone's cup of tea.
But at least these tapes are totally genuine, unrehearsed and because there is an initial interview involving the lady's sexual preferences etc One can have an insight not often seen or broadcast.
Before I am taken to task for advertising - I am only answering query. I do not need to advertise, merely describing what most of you chaps seem to want.
In conclusion, may I take my hat off to all the lovely ladies it was MY PRIVILEDGE to interview and wish them all well in their current/future endeavours.

If I had one piece of advice for any Gonzo producer,
it would be 'pay attention to the interview segment.'

Crimpo hits the nail on the head by saying that it
is important that the personality of the girl comes
across as a pre-cursor to sex.

It also has to be said that the girl plays some
responsibility in this too. I have seen producers
desperately try to engage a girl in conversation only
for her to respond with one-word answers.

Personally, I like Marcus' vids. IMHO the looks of the
guy are very secondary - and I s'pose there is an
subtext of

"If an old fucker like Marcus can make it with the
girl.... then there is hope for someone like me"

which is a plus for the single male viewer.

Gotta agree with the Law: a scenario helps greatly, if it's done well. Anticipation is an important factor in my enjoyment. I still think well-made gonzo has a place in porn, though, and would dissent from the view that it's killing the industry: Dibble's 'Travelodge' films are, though.
