Porn Movie Cover Picture Question

Post by Deano! »

As some of you here have experience in the honorable profession of making porno flicks, I have a question which has been bugging me for years.

We all know that porno movies rely on a good cover picture to help sales. They get the sex-pot to appear on the cover wearing itsy bitsy teeny shreaded, torn and totally ripped denim hot pants and a fishnet see-through top and stillettoes. " Oh yeah baby! " you mumble to yourself as you pick that one out.

When you watch it you find that although the background in the cover shot is indeed the same location as the movie set, the model is now wearing knee length baggy denims, the fishnet top is now a baggy jumper and even the stillettoes are now librarians shoes.

Why do they do this? They seem to go to extra lengths to make sure you're disappointed. However, I must admit this was more of a problem a few years ago than now.

A problem which has thankfully just about stopped for good is the practise of using a totally unrelated picture on the cover. I think I once saw Sam Fox on the cover of a fully explicit porn video!

Phwooorr...look at her....CRASH

An American company used a fully-dressed photo from an agency to illustrate a 'barely legal' kind of film.

The model is British, not in porn-and never has been- and was 14 when the picture was taken. She contacted the company concerned asking them to withdraw the photo- they replied it had affected sales anyway!

Unsuprisingly, she has filed a suit in the US about it.

It's simple :- Once you have parted with your cash it doesn't matter whether you like the movie or not. It's why the market in America is flooded with product. They are all competing for your dollar/pound/euro so they will use any technique to make you buy theirs.
Back in the early 90's (on video box covers) they put pic's of Torrie Welles (no relation). She wasn't in the movie but she walked on at the start of the tape and said enjoy the movie boys and walked of. This meant that the producer could legally put her on the box cover. Easy con because of the subject matter - SEX. Something like 96% of porn buying punters will go back and buy another tape/dvd even if they thought the last one was shit.
