Will Michael Owen Stay At Newcastle Utd?

He will be a Newcastle player until at least next summer as the clause in his contract that allows him to leave for a set fee has restrictions on it i.e. he can only leave if a club matches the buy out fee and does so from the end of the season until June 30th.

Whether he stays at Newcastle or not I would suspect depends on how they get on this season but his buy out clause is "rumoured" to reduce in size by 25% every season hence next season it could be around the ?7m mark.

As for joining Man Ure then it's a possibility but I reckon he's holding out for a move back to Liverpool first and will look elsewhere only if that doesn't happen or if he's unhappy at Newcastle. Jamie Redknapp said as much on Sky in preseason when he said that Michael Owen would walk back to Liverpool if given the chance as he loves the club. He was then asked by Richard Keys how he knew that and he just said that he knew.

He is one of Michael Owen's best friends so I reckon it's fair to say they had a conversation about it hence how he knew.

Maybe if they could gel together but they are both similar in style and it's a possibility that they could get in each others way but I suppose the only way we'd ever find out for sure is if they played together.

As for what Jamie Redknapp said on Sky in pre season about Michael Owen loving the club then my retort at the time was if he loved the club so much then why did he leave in the first place and I'm still of that opinion now.

I don't think Man Utd would suit Owen's game, and Man Utd already have 2 skillful, intelligent, strikers in Rooney and Tevez, with the pace and finishing of Saha.

Torres doesn't play like Heskey, or Viduka so I'm unsure he'd flourish in the present Liverpool side; he'd also be rotated.

Newcastle is the place to be right now. He's got a big man upfront to support him, and he'll play the majority of games if he's fit. Allardyce is renowned for getting his players to the peak of fitness as well, and after Owen's injuries over the past few years, keeping fit is a priority while the amount of games should mean he's sharp for England.
