It seems that the whole country has become amateur private detectives who have been watching CSI and have come to the conclusion that the mccanns are guilty of accidently killing (yeah right) their daughter and conjuring up an elaborate plan,which involves fooling the pope,various football clubs and celebrities and business people.If you accidently harmed your child and claimed she was missing would you want to prolong the media campaign and be in every paper.

I think if the McCanns were chavs, they would have been fried weeks ago. They are two highly intelligent toffs and it will be very difficult to crack their stories. Mrs McCann is a classic middle class "Yummy Mummy" that the media will immediately identify and sympathise with. It would have been a very different matter had the couple looked like Fred and Rose West and been on benefits.

Its funny that although the Portugese police are getting a caning, they are in fact acting on information supplied by the British Forensic science service.

for once, i think the behaviour of the british press has been beyond reproach - indeed, if anything i think they have gone overboard in their support of the mccanns.

The problem with this case is far too much time is spent speculating on them as characters and judging accordingly rather than the event itself. Yes, they're middle class professionals with a decidedly slick handling of the situation, but that may just be characteristic of how these sort of people go about things rather than the callous actions of the guilty. Some think she's guilty because they've not seen her sob for the camera yet. Oh, for fuck's sake.

It is, admittedly, a fascinating case to ponder (many discrepencies and ambiguities regarding that fateful evening), but the McCanns? never met 'em. Can't say.
