Tricky.

1. Can you open an account via the Net before you come?

2. Does your bank have a British affiliate?

3. Are you in a global bank?- HSBC/RBS etc.?

Hi PT,

when I worked in the US I had my bank, HSBC in the UK, set me up a US account before I left so that when I went to New York the account was set up and ready to use. I still have the account, and it's perfectly fine. Other banks, such as Citibank I know offer a similar service.

Good luck!

A UK bank may require details like a UK address and verification of that address.
I know this because one of my neighbours here in NZ went back to the UK for an extended stay a couple of years ago. She had some problems initially because she (as a recent arrival) didn't have a permanent address etc.
