Re: Simon Mayo
Hr has been one of the more successful transitions from radio 1 dj to host talk show, very calm and knowlegable, a pleasure to listen to and not full of it.

I liked him when he was on Radio 1.
Along with Steve Wright in the late 80's they were top of the shop.
Radio 1 not the same now apart from Chris Moyles

6 years now! I had no idea it was that long ago he started - time flies.

Re: Simon Mayo
He was pretty poor in the role when he started. But he improved rapidly and I think it was a measure of his improvement that they left him on air on 9/11 day.
If that had happend in his first couple of months I think the Drive team would have been brought in early.
He does a good job now - I download the podcast every day because there's usually something different he gets out of the big interview guest, whoever they are.

Hi KJ,
Yes I also remember what a great job Simon did on 9/11. I think it was his first week on Five Live and he was suddenly thrust into a major event live on air and had to keep interviewing different people without any preparation or planning. Despite this he never put a foot wrong.
I also used to listen to him doing the Top Forty Album chart show on Radio 2 Monday nights at 7PM. Rado 2 in their wisdom have now taken it off.
